I'm Jihan, and I'm working on a healthcare machine learning PhD at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the development of artificial intelligence for chemical biomarker analysis. I work specifically in biomarker discovery for mental health disorders alongside world-leading researchers like Professors Sabine Bahn, Oren A. Scherman, and Pietro Liò.
At its current state, global healthcare systems are incapable of addressing the severe impact of mental health disorders. Many of us can attest, that wait times are long, treatment options are slim, and the scientific foundation of the current best practices are shaky at best. While a significant portion of the challenge at hand is inherently political and economical, the fortification of the scientific foundations can see a direct, significant improvement. My work aims to leverage AI techniques and novel chemical measurement methods, to follow an unorthodox approach to biomarker discovery to see if doing things in a less structured way could see different results compared to the past 40 years of mental health biomarker research.
In the professional realm, I'm always on the lookout for ways to make a positive impact. I'm particularly drawn to opportunities in AI and biotech. Outside of the university, you'll likely find me with a film camera in hand.
